Imam shafi’i said, "this world is just a moment, make it a moment of obedience"
This is the painful reality we are unable to take up. It’s just a moment! Just a blink and it’s all gone. Just a breath and it’s taken away. Just like a flower that sprouts from the soil and then becomes healthy and attractive, then it weakens with its beauty lost and finally dies. It suddenly becomes nonexistent and no one even remembers it. It’s that short.
We have tried our best to complicate the equation of life and blinded ourselves to its harsh reality. We made it seem as though we are made for this world although Rasul SAW told us it’s nothing but a journey. We became engrossed by this place called earth and its delusions although we were warned by a Warner from the Ever Living, Most High. We don’t realise closing our eyes will not make the reality disappear into thin air neither will staying ignorant about it prevent it from happening to you.
The Giver of Life has made it crystal clear to us, the matter of death has been decided. It shall come to pass unannounced. We might hide in the darkest of places or go to the most secure of buildings, we might use our wealth and health securing, our dunya, but it will not do us any good. We have spent so much insuring our lives but I wonder if we are working on the premiums to secure us during our death and what follows it.
Allah is the Most Knowledgeable and Most Wise. We have neglected our hereafter. We think just because we live and are Muslims then the rest doesn’t matter and we can go about enjoying our lives. Death will come and it will come as you lived.
If the angel of death comes to us and tells us “come to the wrath of your Lord!” then we shall see what we were being warned against. That moment, when we will feel as if thorns are being pulled out of every nerve of our body, that is when we would wish we heeded the Words of our Lord, Most Perfect He Truly is. We will realise we had perfectly fashioned our destruction and prepared the beds of our complete failure and wish we had a moment to live in the obedience of Allah. May Allah never let His punishment touch us.
But for those who obeyed shall have a beautiful story to tell. One which you and I will fall in love with when we have not even seen it. The malaika telling you “come forth to the reward of your lord!” Subhanallah these words will be enough to make you desire your grave. This will be the end of your pain and struggle in this world. It will be the “wow” moment of achieving the greatest success. Truly Allah always fulfils His promise to the believers.
This is the bliss that will be given to us if we obey. This world is but a mirage. It’s full of lies and temporary things. Nothing in it is beneficial except that which is used in Allah’s way. Our death depends on how we live in this world and how we live is dictated by the choices we make and the choices we make are dictated by what we love. If we are not careful where our heart is attached we might end up dying on that which is displeasing to Allah.
Let us not blind ourselves from the very fact of our creation, let’s not forget that this world is not our home and let’s not forget we are accountable for our deeds. A day will come when we wish we had a chance to obey Allah and the message of Islam. A day will come when our children and family will not do us any good. A day will come O children of Adam when our graves will call to us. O children of Adam, listen before your hearing is taken away, obey before the means is taken away. Let’s try and not be those who regret when death comes to us. O children of Adam this dunya is a dream, wake up and see your reality before it’s too late.
Ya Allah Giver of life and Creator of All, I call upon you by your attributes, those known and unknown to me;
Ya Allah, save this ummah from the fitnah of this world and instil in our hearts your consciousness. Ya Allah, purify our hearts and make our hearts obedient to the Quran and sunnah. Ya Rabb, bestow upon us a good death and grant us Your jannah.

Allah says in Quran 4:78
“Wherever you are death will find you even if you are in towers built up strong and high”

Allah ST says in chapter 75 (20-21)
Nay! but you love the present life
And neglect the hereafter

“When death comes to one of them, he says, ‘My Lord, send me back! So that I can do good in the things I neglected.’ By no means! It is a mere word that he speaks.”

27. (It will be said to the pious): “O (you) the one in (complete) rest and satisfaction!
28. “Come back to your Lord well-pleased (yourself) and well-pleasing (unto Him)!
29. “Enter you then among My (honoured) slaves,
30. “And enter you My Paradise!”
